چکیده

Additional studies have been made of the accumulation of S(35) by renal cortical tissue incubated in media containing radiosulfate. This process was found to occur in several mammalian species in addition to the rat, but was not observed as a significant occurrence in three species of lower vertebrates. In the case of rat renal tissue, S(35) uptake was found to be sensitive to the pH and osmolar concentration of the medium. The character of the anions present in conjunction with K(+) affected it as well. Various factors known to be related to in vitro accumulative processes, as well as to renal sulfate reabsorption by the intact dog, were tested on rat kidney cortex to assess the effect on radiosulfate uptake. In general, all substances tested (amino acids, metabolic intermediates, ATP, metabolic inhibitors, competitive inhibitors for PAH accumulation in vitro) were found to lessen S(35) uptake, or to be without effect upon it. The one striking exception was phlorhizin, which enhanced markedly S(35) uptake in vitro, as it does sulfate reabsorption in vivo. Some implications of these findings have been discussed.

Accumulation of Sulfate Labelled with S35 by Rat Tissue in Vitro

Rat kidney slices incubated in vitro may show, in parallel with other shifts in electrolyte content, a striking capacity for accumulating sulfate ion (sulfate labelled with S(35)). The uptake is reversed or reduced by CN(-), cooling to room temperature, and by interference with adequate oxygenation. Under the conditions of the experiment, the presence in the medium of sodium acetate and glucose...

Factors Influencing the Uptake and Loss of Radiosulfate by Rat Renal Cortical Tissue in Vitro

Rat kidney cortical slices, during incubation in vitro, lose previously accumulated radiosulfur when exposed to conditions (e.g. addition to the medium of metabolic inhibitors) which normally depress the uptake of S(35). The extent of this loss is not affected significantly by the presence of phlorhizin, an agent which enhances markedly radiosulfate accumulation. On the other hand, when tissues...

The Effects of Fluoride Feeding on the Organic Matrix of Bones and T E E T H of Pigs as Observed by Autoradiography after in Vitro Uptake of Ca

Demineralized sections of normal bones of different species of mammals, including man, show a preferential uptake of Ca 45 at the level of the epiphyseal plate after in vitro incubation in a solution of C#5C12. Though demineralized sections of prebone and predentine also take up Ca 45 under similar circumstances, they do so to a considerably lesser extent (B61anger (I)). By this technique, age ...

The Effects of Fluoride Feeding on the Organic Matrix of Bones and Teeth of Pigs as Observed by Autoradiography after in Vitro Uptake of Ca45 and S35

Demineralized sections of fluorinated bones and teeth have been studied by autoradiography following in vitro uptake of Ca(45) or S(35)O(4). The portions of tissue which do not become mineralized (cartilage, prebone, predentine, and precementum) show an increased Ca(45) uptake apparently related to an increase in chondroitin sulfate content in fluorosis. The tissues from the fluoride-fed animal...
